Many people may think that hovercrafts dont work but I have proved that they do, but that is not the reason for my experiment, my experiment is to see if by adding more weight onto theboard if it would change pressure inside. A hover craft really is just a board with pressure building underneath it by air being blown from a leaf blower or a vacuum. So if you look at a hovercraft you will see a board with a plastic sheet covering the bottom with a thin plastic slab in the middle. What that slab does is it makes the middle stay down so that when air goes through the underside it will create a donuts shape. Now around this are little holes that allow air to be let out of the plastic, if it doesn't have this it will essentially pop. So what i am doing is finding out if pressure changes when more weight is on it.
So first what I did was I found this video of a model similar to the one I wanted to make. then I took the mesurements from this and made it like it. here is the link to the video that I used The Gadget Show: Making a Hover board Part 1 (this was a video on youtube, that explaines how to build a simple hovercraft). Once finished I the board I went on with the experiment and started to add some weights. I did this for a while adding more and more weight until I got the data that I needed.
My results were fairly simple, the pressure did not change through out the experiment, or at least my type of gauge did not pick up any change. I was very suprised in the results because I would have thought that the pressure would increse greatly because it would be holding down the board.
PURPOSE: The purpose of my experiment was to see if by changing the amount of weight on my hovercraft if that would change the pressure under the board.
